My Reading Journey

Sometimes it’s easy to forget what kind of reader I used to be in the past and the variety of books I enjoyed at different ages. This is especially true as I’ve grown to develop a strong taste and distaste for certain books, which has certainly changed the way I see stories. I was surprised to look back and find so many books that I love, and others that I…

Stories to Mature With

There are some stories that continue to mean more to me every time I read them, and I’m confident they will continue to do so for the rest of my life. In today’s post I’m going to share three of these books with you.

Christopher Robin (the Movie)

The special thing about this movie is the way it hints back to the original stories that so many people love in a way that’s both sweet and bittersweet.

The Sunshine Blogger Award

Recently I was nominated by Hannah Ruth (from Faith, Fiction, and Fairytales!) for the Sunshine Blogger Award. This is an award to highlight those bloggers that have brought you a little bit of cheery sunshine through their writing!

Thoughts on A Wrinkle in Time

This is one of my very favorite books (which might come as a surprise considering it’s significantly different than my usual taste in books), and I have read it at least three times all the way through.

Gardening Picture Books

It’s finally that warm time of year when the flowers are beginning to bloom. In honor of that, this seemed like a great time to write a post about my favorite gardening picture books. The books are The Gardener, Miss Rumphius, and A Little More Beautiful. 🙂

The Story of Mary Poppins

P. L. Travers’ desire for the books was that not only would Mary Poppins become the practically perfect new nanny for the children, she would also have an effect on the whole family (the father in specific) that would be moving enough to bring them together.

The Country Bunny

Today, while I was flipping through a stack of old Easter books we keep in our attic, I found this wonderful treasure of a story. The Country Bunny, by Du Bose Heyward is one of my very favorite picture books for this time of year.

The Austin Family Chronicles, by Madeleine L’Engle

The Austin Family Chronicles has become one of my new favorite series over the last few weeks. I am amazed by the ability L’Engle has of weaving incredible stories that not only entertain, but also offer thoughtful insight at deeper, more meaningful matters.

3 Books to Read by Scott O’Dell

I certainly can’t claim to have read all of Scott O’Dell’s books, but today I thought I’d discuss the three that have stood out to me from the ones I have read.

Truths From Aslan

There are so many beautiful themes and passages to unpack from the series, but there is one thing that seems to be the heart of all the stories, and that is, of course, Aslan.

The Heroines of L. M. Montgomery

Doesn’t Montgomery have a way of making you fall in love with her characters? 🙂 All of her heroines are inspiring and delightful, so I figured it was about time I wrote a post about them.

Audio Book vs. Hard Copy?

I read a lot, using both audio books and hard copies. Both have their strengths and their weaknesses, so today I’ve decided to weigh the differences between them.

Thoughts on Bad Books

Is there such a thing as a bad book? If so, what separates a good book from a bad one? Does the quality of a book matter, or am I too picky?

Classic Picture Books

A picture book can capture anything from the smallest moment to the biggest idea (and the best ones capture both), and a quality picture book is very valuable and significant in a child’s life.
