Honey Butter, by Millie Florence (Written During NaNoWriMo!)

Happy November everyone! Some of you may be participating in National Novel Writing Month (NANoWriMo for short 😉 ), and if you are, I want to wish you a very happy writing month as well!

To put a little spark of encouragement in your writing I have a very unique book review today! In this post I’m going to be discussing Honey Butter, written by Millie Florence. Millie Florence is a super amazing author I found only recently, and you are definitely going to want to learn more about her and her writing. The big news of this post? Her first book, Honey Butter, was written during NaNoWriMo, and if you are a writer needing some inspiration to keep going on your story I know that you will appreciate this post.

Who is Millie Florence?

So who is this writer I’m talking about? What makes her so special?

Well, there are a lot of things to love about Millie. To start with, she self published her first book at age thirteen, and has gone on to write two more books, with plans to republish one of them through Waxwing Books in early next year.

I listened to a podcast with Millie in it through Read Aloud Revival (that was actually where I heard about her!) and checked out her website right after. She seems to have such a cheerful personality, and her website has lots of pictures that follow her through her writing journey. She talks about finishing Honey Butter, and signing book contracts with the publishing companies she has worked with.

In just a few weeks, Millie Florence has become a writer that I really admire and look forward to reading more from. Please take the time to check out her website (the link’s right here!) and even download an audio or ebook of Honey Butter for free!

Honey Butter!

I will admit, when I first started reading Honey Butter I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. After all, Millie wrote it when she was only thirteen years old, and I certainly don’t find the stories I wrote at that time amazing! But somehow, her age did not matter when she wrote this book. She wrote a good, sweet story that I enjoyed every minute of.

Honey Butter is the story of a girl named Jamie. It’s a book of simple pleasures, summer days, sibling rivalries, and sweet friendship, and a collection of paint cards. There’s something about it that hits differently than you expected, especially after reaching the ending. I am definitely hoping to read this again sometime in the future.

Like I mentioned above, you can download this book for free off Millie’s website, in both audio book and ebook form. The audio book (what I used to read the story) is read by Millie herself, and she does a fantastic job reading the story. I love listening to her voice for the book.

Final Thoughts

This is such a sweet and thoughtful book, perfect to read during November. It wasn’t too short, and the chapters were the perfect length to listen to when I had a few minutes. And it was just so neat to discover a book out there written during NaNoWriMo. I think everyone reading this should go find the book today, whether you’re a writer, or just a reader.

Have you ever heard of Millie Florence before, or read any of her books?
