Why I Love Stories

Hello, hello!

You may have noticed a few changes around here this past week (in fact, I’m still in the middle of them!). I have dropped the name Rays of Marigolds in favor of For the Love of Stories. Because of this, I will be able to make my blog more intentionally focused on good stories with messages of beauty and truth.

In today’s post I’m taking time to sort out the value of stories so that my passion for them can be expressed more clearly. I hope you enjoy this post!

Why I Love Stories

In honor of the changes taking place around here, and the emphasis put on stories, I thought it would be good to dedicate this week’s post to the reason behind it: Why I love stories.

Stories move us, guide us, shape us, and encourage us. But at the end of the day, a story is just a story. It isn’t a lesson, or an inspirational reminder, or a book of strict facts. Because even though a book can, and often does, have all of those things in it, that is not what makes something a story.

So what makes a story, and why do I love them so much?

There are so many ways this question could be answered. Stories bring so much value in so many ways, but, boiled down, my answer is simple. Stories reveal goodness in our lives.

They make up the many, tiny moments of our lives and the hundreds of lives of people before us. And through the brokenness, they reveal the beauty and truth.

Put simply, that is a story. Of course, not every book lives up to that standard, and not every experience is fit to reveal goodness. But a true story shifts our way of looking at things so that we can see life through a different lens. They show us hints of things eternal, and sprinkle reminders of heaven throughout the pages.

Every book has the chance to be this great thing of light, shining like a flame into the darkness.

In Regards to the Blog

I’m sure if you’ve read my blog at all you’ve come across my love for stories in some way or the other. I love reading of all kinds, and enjoy writing about themed parties and book reviews, which you will find all over this site. But the more I uncover my love for stories, the more I come back to the things in this post. Stories are reminders of beauty and truth.

Lately I have been thinking on how to more deliberately guide my blog further in this direction, where I can focus on all things fun and bookish ( 😉 ) while still intentionally giving reminders of the good behind stories. I truly hope this grows into a place you can find that.

Final Thoughts

If you have found it beautiful, or true, or good, please let me know in the comments, as I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you so much!
