Christmas Book Memories

There are so many things to love about books at Christmas time. Picture books about snowy days, novels about magical traditions, and short stories about Christmas at home! I had so many ideas for this week’s blog post that it was hard to narrow it down to one subject.

In the end, I have decided to dedicate this week’s post to Christmas book memories. If you grew up in a book loving family such as I did I’m sure you’ll find this post to be relatable to you.

A Few of My Memories

My family owns many, many Christmas picture books, and every December my siblings and I dedicate whole mornings to the reading of them. One year my mom placed an especially large library book holds on just about every Christmas book she could get her hands on.

We would pile onto the couch, bickering over who got to sit closest to my mom, and settle in for a long winter’s read. 😉 Usually I had a thick pile of yarn and thread, part of my latest Christmas gift in progress, beside me and would work on it as I listened.

But even before I had to fight for my place next to the pictures, my mom was reading me Christmas books every year. Out of the several plastic bins of Christmas books, there are a few books that I remember since I was very little. Every year those are the books I make a point to read, which sometimes means reading the simple, silly stories in place of the enriching ones.

What Makes Christmas Books Special?

I’ve shared some of the memories I associate with Christmas books, but why are any of these memories different from other bookish memories?

Well, one thing about the Christmas season is that it gives you the desire to make time. Now, it doesn’t always give you that time (Christmas seems to get busier and busier for me every year!), but if there is some tradition or habit you want to begin in your family, it will seem much easier to begin that during the holiday season, when your mind is full of cozy winter evenings, snuggles on the couch, and a bright, glowing Christmas tree.

But besides that, there is something special about a Christmas memory. When you read books around Christmas time the memories you make and the stories you read will mold themselves into your idea of the Christmas season, which you will carry with you forever.

Final Thoughts

There are so many reasons I love Christmas books, and it was so much fun to discuss them today. I hope you enjoyed this post, and I would love to hear your thoughts and personal Christmas book memories below. 🙂

Have a very merry Christmas everyone! I hope your holiday is joyful and very blessed!
